It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Doris J. Anderson. She died peacefully at Wellington Regional Medical Center in Wellington, Florida, on September 24, 2020. Doris was born in Birmingham, Alabama on January 10, 1939, daughter of James Catlin and Mary (George) Catlin. She grew up in New York with her parents and siblings Charles, Robert, and Lena. Doris excelled in school and ultimately earned a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from Adelphi University in Garden City, New York. She specialized in psychiatric nursing and administration for 50 years. Doris successfully practiced psychiatric nursing in New York and retired from state service in 1986. Shortly after retiring from New York, Doris and her husband transitioned to the state of Florida, where she continued to practice nursing for approximately 25 years. Doris was an avid reader, loved to swim and entertain others in her backyard, had a love for music, cooking/baking from scratch, and spending quality time with family. Doris’ husband, Herbert S. Anderson, preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister, Lena M. Catlin, and her beloved children Otis, Jr. (Stephanie), Kevin (Linda), Marsha, and Leila. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Anthony, D’Audra, Alycia, Katrina, Courtney, Kara, and Michael; 10 great grandchildren; two nieces; six nephews, and a host of other close cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 10, at 12 p.m., at the Dorsey – E. Earl Smith Funeral Home, 3041 Kirk Road, Lake Worth, FL 33461. Interment of ashes will follow in the Lake Worth Memory Gardens.
