Donald Gene Clum, longtime resident of Anchorage, Alaska, died Friday, February 9, 2024 at the age of 75 after battling cancer for years. He passed away at Alaska Regional Hospital surrounded by family and those that love him. Donald will be laid to rest at the cemetery in Lake Odessa, Michigan on June 7, 2024 at 2 p.m. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Sebewa of Lake Odessa Michigan on June 8, 2024 at 10 a.m. and a luncheon will follow.
Donald Gene Clum was born on Saturday, December 11,1948, in Lake Odessa, Michigan to Victor and Bernice Clum. He had two brothers, Jerry Clum, and Robert Clum, and two sisters, Sharon Clum and Barbara Ketchum.
Donald moved to Anchorage, Alaska in the early 80’s where he met his wife Bonnie Clum in 1986. They were married on April 29,1989 and would have celebrated their 35th anniversary this year. Together they raised three children and welcomed a son-in-law into the family. He had a daughter Kala McCanna, son-in-law Chase McCanna, and two sons Zachariah Clum and Micah Clum. He also welcomed with love three grandchildren Matthew McCanna, Felicity McCanna, and Isla McCanna.
Donald served his community for over 30 years working in the bus ministry at a couple of different churches, bringing children and families in need to church on Sunday. He had a heart to help those in need.
While living in Alaska Donald worked at a several different fish plants as an Engineer. With those jobs he had the opportunity to travel to several different villages in Alaska. He learned to run blast freezers and as time went on he would take online classes to keep up with the new technology.
Donald was a big outdoorsman. He loved to go fishing and hunting and would go with anyone willing to go with him. An invitation from his Uncle Voight to go moose hunting is what initially brought him to Alaska.
Donald loved his family and treasured spending quality time with them. He thoroughly enjoyed loving on his grandchildren, holding them, and sneaking candy to them any chance he got. He will be missed and held in the hearts of those that loved him
