Mrs. Anderson, a resident of Shreveport, LA, was born on January 3, 1937 in Houston, Texas. Surrounded by loving family and friends, she was raised in Lake Charles and graduated from Marion High School in 1955. There she met and married her high school sweetheart, Ray Anderson and was a devoted wife and mother. After raising her family, she earned her cosmetology license and worked outside of the home.
Her children and grandchildren fondly called her the “Cornbread Queen” and tried to emulate her cooking. She was the “go to” for cooking advice. She loved music (especially Cajun) and dancing and shared that love with her grandchildren. She was an accomplished seamstress and had a “green thumb”.
Survivors include; daughter, Connie Anderson Hoffpauir, and husband, Gerald, of Moss Bluff, LA; daughter Frankie Anderson Norton, and husband, Steve, of Shreveport, LA; son, Michael C. Anderson of Elysian Fields, TX; five grandchildren, Audrey Norton Schexnailder, and husband Michael, of Houston, TX, Jared Wayne Hoffpauir of Lake Charles, LA, Courtney Hoffpauir Wilhelm, and husband Dexter of New Orleans, LA, Kristin Anderson Alaniz, and husband, Blayne, of Belton, TX, and Rachel Michelle Anderson of Dallas, TX; and four great-grandchildren, Neil Andrew Schexnailder, Brett Marie Alaniz, Meredith Hope Schexnailder, and Bonnie Ruth Alaniz. She believed her nieces and nephews were the greatest gifts and she loved them dearly and always held them close to her heart.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-eight years Walter Ray Anderson; her father and mother, Major Waddell Brantley and Eula Evail (Nonie) Ray Brantley; sister, Freddie Jo Brantley Farque; nephew, Stephen Waddell Farque; and daughter-in-law, Terri Mendenhall Anderson.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Hixson Funeral Home, 3001 Ryan Street, Lake Charles, LA,. Visitation will be from noon Saturday until time of service. Interment will be at Highland Memory Gardens on Common Street. Service will be officiated by Jody Tyler.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts may be made in Virginia’s name to the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home in Monroe, LA, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Grace Home of Shreveport (https://christusfoundationshreveportbossier.org/give/donate/), American Heart Association or a charity of your choice.
