Shelba was born on the family farm in Baskin, Louisiana, on October 7, 1937. She was the third of five children born to Joseph Howard Fox and Myrtie Cornelia Halley Fox.
She attended Baskin and Maplewood schools before the family moved to Westlake in 1947 and began attending the First Baptist Church of Westlake. Growing up in a family where music was enjoyed, Shelba learned to play the piano and played the clarinet in the Westlake Marching Band. She was chosen to represent Westlake High in various activities because of her beauty and kind personality. She graduated from Westlake High School in 1956.
Shelba and Doylin C. Kile married in the summer of 1956 and they had the first of three daughters; Becky, who passed away shortly after birth in 1957. They had two other daughters, Sheila in 1961 and Lisa in 1962. As a young homemaker she enjoyed cooking, sewing, and caring for her family.
Shelba worked for Continental Pipeline for a short time before having children. After being at home with the girls when they were young, she worked a number of years in their business, data processing, in Westlake. She then went to work at St. Patrick's Hospital for a time before working with the Calcasieu Parish School Board Sales Tax Division until retiring in 1997.
Shelba's greatest gift was being the ultimate caregiver to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, along with other family members and other children.
Shelba is greeted in Heaven by her parents; infant daughter, Becky Lynn Kile; her children's father, Doylin C. Kile; daughter, Sheila Kay Kile; brothers, Glynn Howard Fox, Kenneth Ray Fox, and Ronald Edward Fox.
Those left to cherish Shelba's memory are her daughter, Lisa Ann Kile Mainer and husband John A. Mainer; granddaughters, Maghann Halley Young and Lindsay Kay Mainer; four great-grandchildren, Jesse and Nikolas Miller, Bridget Oaks, and Hayden Young; sister, Patricia Gay Fox Dees, and many beloved extended family members and friends.
The family would like to invite relatives and friends to Hixson Westlake on Monday, September 30, 2024, from 5:30 pm for visitation until 8 pm.
Visitation will resume on Tuesday, October 01, 2024, at 9:30 am until the time of the memorial service at 11 am to Celebrate Shelba's life.
