Philip Arthur Daley
1940-2017
I, Philip Trinity Daley, humbled and saddened to be writing this obituary for a man loved by all and one who touched so many lives, I’m also very proud. Pops was a man’s man, taught his grandchildren the way to live honestly. Philip Arthur Daley, 76, passed away the morning of Saturday June 10th 2017, at Lake Charles Memorial Medical Center, in the ICU unit, due to Stroke. Philip “Coach” “Tex” “Pops” Arthur Daley was born here in Lake Charles; he was the son of the late Richard John Daley Sr. and Irene Daley.
Phil Daley was a marine; a proud marine honorably discharged. To this very day at the Paris Island Military camp, Phil Daley holds the fastest KO in the history of the camp. He was proud to be a marine and had served his country. He was a true warrior. He started off living a very modest life, delivering papers on a paper route at a young age; they grew up poor, which did not stop this man’s powerful work ethic.
Philip A. Daley leaves behind a massive boxing legacy for the entire southern region; in fact he was inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame for his great work. He opened Daley’s Gym over 50 years ago where he taught young boys to become men, and everyone was welcome. Philip cared for the bullied kids and the kids off the street. He had a special place in his heart for every one of his fighters. His students always had his help, whether it was work or a meal. He was dedicated in his work to help them succeed in life. He would give them the courage, power of will and ability to stand up to bullies, there was not a more respected man or coach around.
He is predeceased by his brother: Richard Daley Jr. and granddaughter: Mary Elizabeth Daley. He is survived by his beautiful and loving wife of 50 years: Darla Daley, his sons Philip Scott Daley and wife Dawn and Kirk Shane Daley and wife Jennifer, sisters: Judy Savoy, Barbara Thibodeaux, Patricia Perry, and Mary Guerin, 25 grandchildren and great grandchildren, and many extended family and close friends, young and old. He has touched many lives and will be greatly missed and forever loved.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 13, 2017 from 4-8:00 pm with Rosary at 6:00 pm at Hixson Funeral Home, Lake Charles.
