James Larry Dyson left his earthly home to stand in the presence of the Lord on October 7, 2024 at 2:36 PM. He goes to meet and celebrate with the love of his life for 60 years, Harriette LaCour Dyson, his parents Alvin and Allie Dyson and his three sisters, Marianna Tanner Primeaux, Gay Reeves and Lynn Catrambone.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his daughters, Christi Dyson Watson and husband John and Laurie Dyson Mayeux and husband Jimmy. Five grandchildren, Lacie Watson Robertson and Justin, Ellen Watson Ellzey and husband TJ, Sara Mayeux Adams and husband Paul, Aimee Rose Mayeux and Nicholas Mayeux. He also leaves five great grandchildren, Logan and Karlie Robertson, Aiden and Casey Ellzey and Gavin Adams. He leaves eight nieces and nephews and their spouses and children. He was born December 11, 1931 in Abbeville, Louisiana and grew up in Pecan Island until the age of three when the family moved to Cameron.
He graduated from Creole high school and started his college career at Louisiana College before moving to LSU and joining the National Guard. He left LSU to enlist in the United States Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1954 at Lackland AFB, as an aircraft mechanic. Upon honorable discharge from the Air Force he moved back home to Cameron to work in and expand the family business.
It was after moving home that he met and married the love of his life. They met at First Baptist Church of Cameron where he had begun his music ministry which lasted for more than 40 years. Together they survived hurricane Audrey and were able to return to Cameron to rebuild their life. He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge and Cameron Lions Club. He was also a volunteer firefighter for many years. He loved duck hunting and sharing the North Prong Camp with many friends and family.
After retirement he and Harriette moved north of the Gibstown bridge to Lake Charles to be closer to their children and grandchildren. He became an active member of First Baptist Church of Lake Charles, serving in the choir, as a deacon and in his Sunday school department. He also chose late in life to become part of the Gideon International group, to work placing bibles in as many hands as possible. His goal in life was to tell the story of Jesus to as many people as he could and show his love daily through the way he lived his life.
The family will welcome relatives and friends at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles on Saturday, October 12, 2024 beginning at 11:00 a.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. followed by burial at Prien Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank those who made his home going less painful. The staff of Sage Oak Community House 4 who quickly made him feel at home and part of their family for the short time he was there. The love they gave him and us will be cherished forever. The staff of Brighton Bridge Hospice for all the guidance and support they gave us during this difficult time.
The many friends and family who gave us their unwavering prayer support. Most importantly, to God for giving us the most amazing Daddy and Pepaw anyone could ever have been blessed with.
