Fred W. Wannage Sr. was born on December 17, 1926 to George W. and Lydia Wannage. He was a World War II Veteran who served his company in Germany as a Military Policeman. He returned home and went back into the family business as a commercial fisherman. He married Katherine Gallier and they had ten children.
Mr. Wannage is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years and a daughter May Ellen Rasmussen his mother and father, two brothers, and three sisters. He is survived by one sister. Martha Ann Manuel of Lake Charles and nine children, R. W. “Sonny” Rasmussen and wife Margie of Silsbee, TX, Lydia “Dee” Greenough and husband Douglas of Carencro, LA, Fred “Buddy” JR. of Lake Charles, Georgia Kent and husband Ron of North Carolina, Marian “Mee Mee” Froemming and husband Don of Big Lake, LA, Marianne “ Poochie” Engle of Denver, CO, Edward “Eddie” and wife Genevieve “Sissy” of Big Lake, LA, Cathy Doucet and husband Carson of Big Lake, LA, and Margaret “ Peanut” Theriot and husband Larry of Big Lake, LA, Adopted sons David W. Baker and J. D. Neff of Lake Charles, twenty three grandchildren and forty three great grandchildren and six great- great grandchildren.
Mr. Wannage was a lifetime member of VFW Post 2130. He was the owner and operator of Fred’s Place until turning it over to his son. He loved all walks of life, but his true love was being a commercial fisherman.
Funeral services for Mr. Wannage will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 10 AM in the Chapel of Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles with burial being held at Prien Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Monday May 23, 2011 from 4PM-8PM and will resume on Tuesday from 8AM until time of service. Words of comfort may be expressed to the family at www.hixsonfuneralhome.com.
