I went to Sowela with Curtis back in the late ‘70s.  So sorry to hear of his passing.  He was really a nice guy.  

Curtis was my brother in law for 43 years, he was always happy and always had a kind word for all, he never met a stranger. Curtis was a religious person who played drums and sang at Big Lake Gospel Tabernacle when he was younger.  Curtis would practice accompamament tape to sing in church, he had sang in our fathers' funeral  in Lake Charles. Curtis had sang on a Christian channel in Lake Charles when he was younger.  Curtis was helpful  with the elderly relatives, always trying to be helpful to all who needed him. When Curtis married Dorothy they settled in Big Lake where they would be near his in laws to help when they were needed as they aged. We were all thankful for the help he provided as our parents aged. Curtis was a kind and gentle person who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Words can not express our sorrow for the passing of Mr. Curtis Amy. We have good memories over the years with shared holidays, fireworks, and grandchildren’s birthdays.

Watching "Brother" Curtis (what I always called him at church) play the drums when I was a kid, I was fascinated. He took the time to later teach me in more than a few lessons and I was soon on my way to playing in church as well, first playing drums when he had to work, and later playing bass guitar or guitar with him. 

It all started with him taking the time to be excellent at what he was doing, "as unto the Lord," and then taking the time to share that excellence and some training with a 12-year-old kid. 

I can truly say that he changed my life. Even later when he struggled with arthritis, he found ways to deal with it (he had these cool leather gloves and found lighter drumsticks) and he continued to worship the Lord through his music. 

I can also honestly say that I highly respected Bro. Curtis and appreciated the way that he worked very hard to support his family in a trade that was not light work. As a mechanic, he always was, throughout my youth, a big, tough-looking guy with this reddish hair and curls, the very DEFINITION of what a hard-working man was supposed to look like, and yet he had this "softer" side of his music and love for God - something he was always willing to testify strongly about. 

One thing I've learned in the past 17 years is that being a dad is hard sometimes, but you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. I didn't know everything about Bro. Curtis' life, nor did I get to spend much time with him outside of the church relationship of my youth, but I did see evidence of that truth operating in his life. Since I've gone through my own tests and trials, I've grown to really appreciate the character that Bro. Curtis demonstrated.

Through his testimony and his lifelong faith, he led his family as an example for others to follow in Christ, and I am glad that I had the chance to know him. 

Sis. Dorothy, Velvet, Violet, the grandkids, and the rest of the family are definitely in my prayers. I know he will be dearly missed.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 43 years, Dorothy Ann Amy; daughters, Velvet Ann Myers (Cory) and Violet Victoria Bergeron (Brett); brothers, William Amy (Lola), Johnny Amy (Maryland) and Howard Amy (Tammy); five grandchildren, Conner Henning, Chloe Bergeron, Logan Bergeron, Landon Bergeron, and Austin Trahan; and five step grandchildren, Corbyn Myers, Ethan Myers, Phoenix Myers, Cameron Myers, Chase Douget.


He is preceded in death by his parents, Dudley Amy, Jr. and Betty M. Amy; and sister, Lovisa A. Duplantis.
