Cleo was born and raised in Malone, FL. After marrying W.L. “Blackie” Duhon, they moved to Louisiana and resided in Bell City for 13 years. In 1965 they moved to Sweetlake where she lived until 2005. She then relocated to Lake Charles after Hurricane Rita and settled at Kingsley Place, calling it home from 2007 to her passing.
Cleo loved gardening and was known by many for her beautiful gardens, which she liked to walk you through. She was an active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church since 1965. She belonged to Cameron Parish Home Demonstration Club, it was a great joy of hers and she never met a stranger. Anyone who ever tasted her chocolate chip cookies always came back for more. She will dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Phillip Duhon and wife, Anne; two daughters, Brenda Higgins and husband, Glenn and Pamela Rubit and husband, Joseph; one sister, Carolyn Hall; seven grandchildren, Matthew Higgins, Kristin Higgins, Ashley Bedingfield, Heather Hickerson, Hope Rubit, Arden Duhon, and Cameron Hickerson; four great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, W.L. "Blackie" Duhon.
Her Home-Going Service will be 11am Thursday, January 23, in Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. The Rev. Francis LaRocque will officiate. Visitation is from 5-9pm Wednesday, January 22 and will resume Thursday 8am until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens.
