Billie Fruge, age 89, of Sweetlake, Louisiana passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2024. She was born February 5, 1935 in Houston, TX. and adopted by Charley LeBleu and Eloise Bourriague LeBleu as an infant.
In her younger years, Billie was a dedicated athlete at Grand Lake High School. As she grew older, she cherished spending her vacations with her numerous nieces and nephews. Renowned for her culinary skills, she delighted in hosting gatherings for friends and family. Many still treasure memories of her pecan pralines, sweet dough fig pie, and chocolate fudge. Throughout her life, Billie played a significant role in her community, participating in the choir, Mardi Gras Krewe, home demonstration club, and altar society. She particularly cherished being crowned queen of her Mardi Gras Krewe, Krewe Des Deux Lacs. A passionate traveler, she also enjoyed the slots at L’auberge. Her radiant smile could brighten any room, and her generosity knew no bounds.
Billie was a storyteller and loved visiting in person, sharing a cup of coffee, or on the phone with her family, friends and neighbors. As a proud mother, Billie often shared her story of being adopted and her joy in adopting her two children.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Bernadette Fruge and wife Ashley Menard of Lafayette and Kirk Fruge and husband Jerry Torres of Dasmarinas, Cavite, Philippines; granddaughter, Cora Fruge; sister, Marlena Boyles of TX.; and numerous niblings and grand niblings. Special recognition to niece, Pam Shepherd and husband Thomas Shepherd and niece Paula Babineaux and husband Brian Babineaux.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charley and Eloise LeBleu; husband of 63 years, JD Fruge; and brother, Virgil LeBleu.
The family will welcome relatives and friends at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 8:00 a.m. with a Celebration of Life to begin at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery. The Msgr. Harry Greig will officiate at the services.
