Born on November 17, 1940, to the late Cecil J. and Ruby Elizabeth (Eiler) Shannon in Louisville, Kentucky, Bill was the first of two boys.
Bill was the proud owner of J & B Utility Contractors, having previously worked for Jefferson Piping and a member of the Local Laborers Union 576. He was known for his strong work ethic and took great satisfaction for a job well done. Outside of work he enjoyed spending time on his farm raising a garden and spending cherished moments with his grandsons fishing at the pond. Quality time with family was important to Bill, especially fun gatherings with the Shannon/Eiler family and going to Rough River with the Arnold family. Above all Bill was a remarkably generous man-always ready to lend a hand or offer support to family, friends, and anyone in need.
Bill was a devoted husband, father, brother, brother-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Left to cherish the memory of Bill are his wife of 64 years, Norma "Sue" Arnold Shannon; his loving children, Barbara Elizabeth Roth and William Lee Shannon Jr. (Natalie); cherished grandsons, Austin Shannon (Jessica), Garrett Shannon (Hannah), and Blake Roth; his great-grandson, Hunter Lee Shannon; brother, Cecil J "CJ" Shannon (Georgie); nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Memorial visitation will be held at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home, 706 W Jefferson St, LaGrange on Sunday, April 27, 2025, from 1-3pm with a celebration of life starting at 3pm. A private placement will take place in Evergreen Cemetery on Preston Hwy in Louisville at a later date.
The family would like to express their gratitude to so many people who helped care for Bill, especially Connie Satterly and Melissa Allen who were his devoted caregivers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be directed to Lewy Body Dementia Association or the American Stroke Association in Bill's name.
