March 16, 1932 – April 21, 2021
Harvey Brewer was larger than life: veteran of the Marine Corps, Kentucky Colonel, family patriarch, and an accomplished home builder. He spent most of his working years as an independent carpenter and contractor, but he excelled at whatever he undertook, whether restaurant management or metallurgy or building. In his later years, he and his wife founded the successful Silk Purse Remodeling.
Harvey was born in Larue County, Kentucky to Harvey Brewer Sr and Nellie Allen Brewer in 1932. He grew up in a can-do and make-do family. In 1953, he married Gail McDonald, the great love of his life. Together they enjoyed the fullness of the years, weathered countless storms, raised three sons, and made their corner of the world a better place. A consummate story-teller, Harvey became the center of any social gathering. He was passionately and fiercely devoted to his family. Even chance encounters provided an opportunity for him to express his pride in his boys. He was never happier than when loved ones gathered at the table to enjoy his cooking.
He is survived by wife Gail Brewer, sons Michael Brewer (Janet), Rodney Brewer (Dana), Gaylord Brewer (Claudia), four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and his four-legged friend Peyton.
A private memorial service for family and congregation will be held for Harvey at the Lagrange Presbyterian Church on Tuesday April 27 at 2:00.
Memorial donations may be made in his name to Trooper Island. https://kentuckystatepolice.org/trooper-island/
