Walter Craig Morris was born on November 23rd, 1965 in Birmingham, Alabama to Robert Lee Morris and Johnnie Mae Morris. On Thursday, May 2nd, 2024, he was called home. Craig is survived by his wife of 22 years, Paula Morris, mother, Johnnie Mae, children: Pierre Lily, Craig Deangelo Morris, D’Marcus Morris, Darlana Scott-Gordon, Lanika Calhoun, Marvin Gamble and Kim Dukes, siblings: Debbie Morris-Smith, Willie Edward Morris, Ella Mae Morris, Robert Earl Morris, Patrick Ervin, grandchildren, and a host of family members.
Husband, son, nephew, father, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, motivator… These simple, yet powerful words help you understand exactly who Craig was and why he was cherished by so many. As a youth growing up in Birmingham, Craig developed a passion for tractor trailers. Regardless of where he was or what he was doing, he would always pause and identify the various makes and models as they passed by on the streets. Kenworth, Freightliner, Peterbilt, Mack, it didn’t matter; he loved them all. This passion eventually led to him becoming a truck driver and then creating his own trucking company. These actions later inspired many to follow in his footsteps by also and become truck drivers and trucking company owners.
Craig had an unwavering love for his family. Regardless of where he was in the country, he would aways find time to pick up the phone and check on loved ones. Always willing to help by providing sound words of advice or just being an ear that listens or a shoulder to lean on. Some would say he was so caring that he would give you the shirt off his back. But this was taking things too far. The man loved his clothes and was so well dressed that he would give high end male fashion models a run for their money. He would give you his heart, but not his shirt. Lol.
But as passionate as Craig was about his family and trucking, he had two passions that he jokingly said he loved more: the Madden Football video game series and his dogs. He once professed that he could tell how much his dogs missed him after being on the road by how much they dirtied up his clothes. Craig’s passion for his dogs clearly demonstrates to all why they called “man’s best friend.”
Craig was loved by all who knew him, and his absence will leave a hole in our hearts that cannot be easily filled. He will never, ever be forgotten by those he has left behind and his legacy will forever be proclaimed. He was always more than a truck driver to us; he was our center of gravity, and his legacy will continue to live on in us and through us, while the Earth continues to spin.
