Tommy was born August 23, 1937 in the Salem Community of Troup County, son of the late Thomas Jefferson Smith, Sr. and Annie Lee Thompson Smith. He was a lifelong area resident and enjoyed spending time with his family and farming. Tommy retired after 37 years from the Dunson Division of West Point Pepperell, where he worked as an Automotive Mechanic. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Thomas Jefferson Smith, III.
Survivors include his wife, Reba Smith of West Point; daughters, Tammy and Ronnie Crenshaw of Pine Mountain, Rita and Paul Cooley of LaGrange, and Angel Scott of LaGrange; a son, Shannon T. and Becca Smith of Pine Mountain; sisters, Pearl Anderson of Austell, Bessie Williams of Spartanburg, SC, and Lillian Wilkerson of Atlanta; grandchildren, Lindsey Foster, Brittany Crenshaw, Jessica McClendon, Michael Cooley, Freddie Scott, III, Chelsea Scott, Emily Smith, and Wyatt Smith; great-grandchildren, Allie Foster, Libby Foster, and Brynlee McClendon; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will gather to receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.
A graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 6, 2011 in Shadowlawn Cemetery with Rev. Olin McClain officiating.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to either West Georgia Hospice or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) in memory of Thomas Jefferson Smith, Jr.
