Mrs. Walker was born September 21, 1926, in Birmingham, Alabama, daughter of the late Julian and Florence Fleming. Mrs. Walker graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in sociology. She was employed by Eastern Airlines for a number of years as a ticketing agent and held various administrative positions. She was a member of the LaGrange Woman’s Club for many years and served as president from 2001 to 2003. She was also an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange, where she was involved with the Presbyterian Women’s organization. Throughout her lifetime, she was involved in community volunteer work wherever she lived. While living in LaGrange, she was a member of the Woman’s Auxiliary serving the West Georgia Medical Center.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Peter Martin of Statesboro, Georgia, a son and daughter-in-law Craig and Pam Walker of Peachtree City, Georgia; grandchildren and their spouses, James and Jenny Martin, Valerie and Tim Hansen, Anna Martin, Ellen and Jeremy Neal, Matthew Walker, and Caroline and Ted Kuhn and six great-grandchildren, Kate Martin, Emma Martin, David Hansen, Mary Martin, Leah Hansen, and Sarah Martin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Walker.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange with Dr. William Conine officiating. Burial will follow in Shadowlawn Cemetery. The gathering of family and friends will be at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, on Monday, July 15, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, those desiring may contribute to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 120 Broad Street, LaGrange, Georgia 30240, in memory of Mrs. Walker.
