Reba Y. McClain

Mrs. McClain was born January 13, 1926 in Lawrenceburg, TN, daughter of the late William David Yates, Sr. and Annie Mae Gibbs Yates. She has been a loving and faithful pastor’s wife to Rev. J. Olin McClain for over 50 years. Mrs. McClain was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and devoted sister to her 11 siblings. She had been employed with Callaway Mills and G. Mansour’s Department Store before retiring. Mrs. McClain was an accomplished seamstress, loved gardening and was a foster grandmother for Hollis Hand Elementary School.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, J. Olin McClain of LaGrange; two children, Rebecca “Becky” Carter (Ken) of LaGrange and David Olin McClain (Paula) of Panama City, FL; grandchildren, Tiffany McClain Vinson (Adam) of Panama City, FL, Mary Beth Carter Pelt (Garrett) of LaGrange, Stacie McClain Palmer (Keith) of Panama City, FL; Matthew Yates Carter (Katie) of Clarkston, GA, and Logan Murray McClain of Panama City, FL; great grandchildren, Cierra Vinson of Panama City, FL, Emily Palmer of Panama City, FL, Saralynn Pelt of LaGrange, Ansley Palmer of Panama City, FL, and Carter Pelt of LaGrange; sisters, Dean Clay of Omaha, AL, Kate Blair of Fredonia, AL, Marjorie Ray of LaGrange, and Frances Bailey of LaGrange; brothers, Alva D. Yates of Detroit, MI, William D. Yates, Jr. of Louisiana, Wilford Yates of Graham, AL, and Kenneth Yates of Carrollton, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 20, 2013 in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with Reverend Bobby Robinson and Reverend Paul Blair officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens. The gathering of family and friends will be this evening from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels or to Flat Shoals Salem Road Baptist Church in memory of Mrs. Reba Yates McClain.
