Mr. Mansour was born November 2, 1925 in LaGrange, GA, son of the late Nasor Mansour and Mary Shair Mansour. He was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and served as a CCD teacher, lector, Chairman of the Bishops Capital Campaign fund drive, and a former parish council chairman. Mr. Mansour served as Chair of Architectural and Construction Expansion Committee which was responsible for the present St. Peter’s Catholic Church location on LaFayette Parkway. He was a Charter Member and Forth Degree Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Mansour was a 1948 graduate of West Point Military Academy and was a member of the West Point Alumni Society. He served with the U.S. Air Force until August 1953 and upon his release from active duty held the rank of Captain.
Mr. Mansour served on many Boards and Associations and held many positions during his career and they include: City-County Hospital Board (Now West Georgia Health System); Past Vice President of the Georgia Heart Clinic; Past Board of the Directors of the LaGrange Lions Club; Past Treasurer of the Highland Country Club; Past Board Member of the National Shoe Retailers Association; Past Chairman of the Board of Mansour’s Inc. (Apparel Department Store), where he was one of the principle owners from 1953 until the past several years. Mansour’s had locations in LaGrange, Columbus, Albany, Macon, and Augusta.
Mr. Mansour also served as Past Chairman of the Board and President of the LaGrange Industrial Park and was instrumental in bringing new industrial companies to LaGrange in the decades of the 60’s and 70’s; served as Chairman of the Downtown Development Authority and served for 22 years where he was a leader in the vitalization of the downtown LaGrange area; and received the LaGrange Chamber of Commerce Valuable Citizen Award.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Evelyn Attyah Mansour of LaGrange; daughter, Carol Mansour-Ezzell and her husband, Pat, of Charlotte, NC; son, Nasor Mansour, III and his wife, Emily, of LaGrange, and their children, John Mansour of Washington, DC, Will Mansour and Joseph Mansour, both of LaGrange; son, Mark Mansour and his wife, Gina, and their son, Mark Elias Mansour, all of Atlanta, GA.; and son, Luke Mansour and his wife, Connie, and their sons, Luke Mansour Jr., Jackson Mansour, and Hal Mansour, all of Columbus, GA.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 2, 2012 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The Rosary will be said at 5:30 P.M. on Friday, June 1, 2012 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church and the visitation will follow from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Catholic Church or West Georgia Hospice in honor of Nasor Mansour, Jr.
