Mr. Humphrey was born August 14, 1919, in Glenn, GA, son of the late William Luther Humphrey and Clara Bell Houze Humphrey. He was employed with West Point Pepperell, Dixie Mills for a number of years. Mr. Humphrey was a member of Second Baptist Church, the VFW and the American Legion. He served his country proudly and was a Veteran of World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Elnora Wright Humphrey; daughter, Mary Humphrey; and great grandson, James Humphrey.
Survivors include his son, James A. (Barbara) Humphrey; grandchildren, James H. (Whitnee) Humphrey; Leola (Jeff) Norred; Paula (Ray) Tarwater; Joshua (Keri) Miller; Rebecca Miller; nine great grandchildren; special friends, Linda Browder, Jamie Browder and family, Brian Browder and family; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The Gathering of Family and Friends will be Friday, April 4, 2014 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with Reverend Ray Tarwater officiating. Burial will follow in Shadowlawn Cemetery. A Celebration of his life will also be held at his home following the services.
The family will be receiving family and friends at 107 Johnson St., the home of Mr. Humphrey, from 2:00pm until 6:00 pm.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Rd., Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256 in memory of Mr. James C. Humphrey.
