James was preceded in death by his parents, James Roy and Jewell Lena Humphrey Blackwood, his brother, Steven Roy Blackwood, his sister Linda Gene Blackwood Bloodworth, and one grandson, Kieran Roy Blackwood. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sheila Carol Burroughs Blackwood, son, Matthew Blackwood (Alesia), daughter, Heather Elliott-Barnett (Michael), daughter, Tabitha Blackwood, son, Joshua Blackwood, his grandchildren, Justin, Maggie, Cody, Harrison, Gabriel, Taiven, Samaya, Zalen, Zyanna, and numerous nieces and nephews.
After graduating high school James served four years in the U.S. Navy. During his service in the navy, he was stationed in London, Tokyo, and Alaska. He would often speak of this time and share the Japanese language he picked up.
After leaving the Navy he began work at Callaway Mills in LaGrange, continuing to work at the Hillside plant after it became Milliken until his retirement in 1995.
James is remembered by all who knew him as always having a big smile on his face, his quick wit, impressive memory, wide read knowledge, and his jovial sense of humor. He is loved and missed by all who knew him.
