Elwood Ayers

Mr. Ayers was born April 23, 1929 in Hogansville, GA, son of the late Albert Buren Ayers and Frances Cola Dunbar Ayers. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Air Force, retiring after 20 years of service as a Master Sergeant. He later worked for LeFebure Company installing safety deposit boxes and vaults for companies. Mr. Ayers served as a volunteer with the Callaway Resort and Gardens.

Mr. Ayers is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Ayers; children, Gary Ayers (Ginger), Susan Ayers, and Christopher Ayers (Melissa); grandchildren, John Ayers, Candy Hudson (Joe), Angela McCullum (Tirus), Derrick McCullum (Patricia), Jason Ayers, Logan Ayers, and Grant Ayers (Alyssa); 5 great grandchildren; numerous great great grandchildren; sisters, Freida Smith (Floyd) and Barbara Turner; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

A Celebration of Life graveside service will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 28, 2023 in Shadowlawn Cemetery with Dr. Orin Sampson officiating. The family will have a reception in the Striffler-Hamby Mortuary Event Room immediately following the graveside service.

The family has requested any contributions be made to a favorite charity in memory of Mr. Elwood Gary Ayers.
