We recall the passing of a life fully lived. Pat Kane was truly dedicated to the happiness and prosperity of his family, friends and community. Those of us who knew him remain buoyed by his spirit as we smile through the tears of our remembrances. Patrick Francis Kane was born in Muskegon, Michigan on November 25, 1934, the eldest of two sons, to Dorothy and Frank Kane. The family moved to Los Angeles in 1944. Pat attended Loyola High School and then Loyola University where he played varsity baseball and was, as a senior, president of Alpha Delta Gamma Fraternity. In his senior year, Pat met his wife to be, Helen Martell. After graduation, he completed Navy OCS and was deployed on his first Western Pacific tour on the destroyer, the USS Blue. Upon his return, Pat and Helen were married in 1958. One year later, when he returned from his second tour in the South Pacific, he was a new father. Pat always recalled his time in the Navy with fondness. After his service, Pat and Helen relocated to San Diego and Pat took a sales position with Uarco Business Forms. A few years later, he began an influential 44-year career with Coldwell Banker Commercial Real Estate. While at “CB,” Pat developed a reputation for hard work, generosity, and integrity. His success is marked by cherished, life-long friendships, and multiple top salesman awards. In 1984, Pat was bestowed CB’s most prestigious honor, The William H. McCarthy Memorial Award, recognizing him as "Salesman of the Year" nationwide for his "Ethical Practices, Willingness to help younger employees and Loyalty to the company." He was loved by his colleagues and associates, who were positively influenced by his mentorship and generous spirit. Giving of his time and talent was second nature to Pat. He was always willing to lend support to the Diocese of San Diego, school boards, and charitable organizations. His most recent involvement was fund raising for Nativity Prep Academy, a private all-scholarship middle school founded on the Jesuit tradition of education. Pat was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Among their quiet commitment to one another, Pat and Helen shared the joy of travel, dressing up for Halloween, hosting lively parties for friends, raising their five children and doting over grandchildren. He was a tireless father, coach, and biggest fan to each of his children: Theresa, Colleen, Brian, Mary Catherine and Michael. And whether guidance or grandfatherly hugs was needed, Pat was readily available for each of his grandchildren. His enthusiasm for the outdoors was highlighted by many hiking, skiing, fishing, and river rafting trips with family and friends, along with his passion for golf… with no less than four holes-in-one to his name. Pat leaves behind his loving wife, Helen, of 57 years, their five children, Theresa, Colleen(Jorge), Brian(Karen), Mary Catherine(Terry) and Michael(Kim) and 13 grandchildren: Ryan, Taylor and Brady Cronin; Alex, Nick, Rachel and Sophia Guerra; Sam and Noelle Kane; Austin and Cutter Podoll, Gavin and Brennan Kane; various in-laws and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Frank and brother Paul. We thank Arthur, Edgar, Elijah and Martha for their devoted, loving care of Pat. With great sadness we say good-bye to a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. Our hearts are filled with beautiful memories of his bright smile, twinkling Irish eyes, dry wit, kindness and generosity. We celebrate his legacy with the knowledge that he rests at peace in the company of our Lord. Services will be held October 1, 2015 at St. Therese of Carmel Catholic Church, 4355 Del Mar Trails Rd., S.D. 92130. Rosary will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by Funeral Mass at 11:30 AM.
