Bruce Arnold Nelson, 87, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2021 at his home in San Benito, TX. He was born in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire to the late Lawrence E. and Lahlia Lovering Nelson on October 25, 1933. Bruce married Marianna Cecil on August 18, 1956.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marianna; Sons, Brian (Lydia) of Torrance, CA and Craig (Sandra) of St. Louis, MO; Daughters, Kristi Sweeney (David) of Enfield, CT and Teri Vaughn (Ken) of Chicago, IL; 7 Grandchildren and 2 Great-grandchildren; Brother, Gene (Janet) of San Benito, TX; Sister, Donna Leroux (Rene) of Orleans, VT.
Bruce received his BA from the University of Connecticut in 1956. He was a Tool Engineer for Pratt & Whitney Machine Tool, a Division of Colt Industries in West Hartford CT for 35 years.
After retirement, Bruce and Marianna took their adventure on the road and crisscrossed the country in their RV. They first came to San Benito, TX in 1999 and began spending winters at the Fun N Sun resort and traveling in the RV in the summer. They settled full time in San Benito in 2005.
Bruce was a man of many hobbies and talents. He enjoyed scuba diving, sailing, photography, video production, wood working, line dancing and racing remote control cars. He was a member and secretary of the Valley By-Liners writers group in Harlingen TX. He was one of the original 8 founding members of the Zoomers RC Car Club in San Benito TX and served in various positions as President, Treasurer, Secretary and finally as Board member emeritus.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
