Shannon Matthew Hunter, 50, of Sheridan, Indiana passed away November 19, 2023. He was born on March 11, 1973 in Kokomo, IN the son of Garfield Richard Hunter, Jr. and Dianna Hunter (Miller). On March 15, 1997 he married Kristy Hunter (Buckner) who survives.
Shannon served in the United States Navy from 1991 until 1994 where he was a damage control fireman on the USS Detroit and gained the nickname "Catfish". He loved hunting, fishing, reading, cooking and baking, working, and playing with his grandkids. Shannon was a member of Hillside Missionary Baptist Church in Kokomo, IN. He loved his work family at Richards Building Supply in Kokomo and Hometown Pizza in Sheridan.
Surviving relatives include his wife Kristy Hunter of Sheridan, IN; mother, Dianna Hunter of Duffield, VA; siblings, Bill Hunter of Duffield, VA; Robyn Hunter of Duffield, VA; Felix Hunter of Bedford, IN; Jon Griffey of Lafayette, IN; children, Jamie Hunter (fiance Zachary) of Sheridan, IN; Jimmy Absher of Lafayette, IN; Nicholas Branum (Cheyenne) of Kokomo, IN; Brayden Hunter (Chastity) of Peru, IN; Dalton Hunter (Constance) of Sheridan, IN; grandchildren, Chris (Nikki), Austin (Bobbie), Cayden (Kelsie), Kenzi, Tinley, Jensyn, Gracelynn, Maelee, Emeryrose, Caleb, Hayden, Brently, Jack, Edan; great grandchildren, Sylus, Weslyn, Huxley; special friends, Johnny Jarrett and two bonus daughters Shelby and Becca and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Garfield Hunter, Jr., brother David Hunter, grandchild Elijah Branum, and his grandparents.
A memorial gathering will be held from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Hillside Missionary Baptist Church 12080 West 100 North, Kokomo, IN 46901. A memorial service will begin at 5:00 PM at the church. Memorial contribution can be made to the American Heart Association in memory of Shannon Matthew Hunter.
