Richard L. McCroskey, 85, West Lafayette, passed away on Friday, April 20, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born October 10, 1926, in Covington, Kentucky, to Denver B. and Gaye (Nell) McCroskey. On January 22, 1942, he married Edith M. Whitehead, and she survives.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He later worked at McCall Corporation in Dayton, Ohio, then Cuneo Press in 1949 in Kokomo until it closed, and then at Sycamore School until his retirement in 1992. He and Edith were members of Parr United Methodist Church in Kokomo.
In addition to his wife, Edith M. McCroskey, he is survived by two sons, Michael D. (Karen) McCroskey, and Ronald L. McCroskey; daughter-in-law, Debbie McCroskey; five grandchildren, Kyle (Carrie) McCroskey, Jenna (Adam Crowther) McCroskey, Nikki (Aaron) Duncan, Kim (David) Lawson, and Wendy McCroskey; and four great-grandchildren, Matthew Lawson, Cooper Lawson, Andrea Duncan, and Alysha Duncan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Faye; and daughter-in-law, Laura McCroskey.
The funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home with Pastor Ken Rushing officiating. Entombment will take place in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
