Maureen Lily Ludlow

Maureen Lily Ludlow, born November 6, 1922 in Belfast N Ireland passed away Saturday, March 2, 2019. She married Max McKay in November of 1945 and he passed away in November 1957. Maureen then married James P. Ludlow on September 1, 1963, a devoted husband who made her life comfortable and happy and whom she loved. Jim passed away January 5, 2015. Proud mother of the most wonderful children: Max Arnold (Starla) McKay, John Michael (Andrea) McKay, James Vincent (Connie) McKay, Patricia Louise (David) Taskey, Bruce (Margaret) McKay, and Maureen Elizabeth McKay; deceased January 23, 1980. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. It was her greatest pleasure to have had them in her life and with regret that she leaves them. Special thanks to the staff at North Woods Commons, St. Vincent Kokomo Hospice Care and a special caregiver, granddaughter Monica Taskey. Family will receive friends Sunday, March 10 from noon – 2pm at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 W. Alto Road, Kokomo, IN, with service to follow at 2pm. Maureen Lily Gilmore McKay Ludlow, 96 years full, and an Irish angel, went home March 2, 2019. Her children were her life. One went to Heaven at 23, and one went to Vietnam at 18, both were hard times for her. She was the most loving, nonjudgmental, supportive Mom. She came to the USA on a Navy troop ship full of war brides that set sail from her home, Belfast N Ireland, from the same harbor where she worked as a draftswoman, the same shipyard (Harland and Wolff) where many years before the Titanic had been built. She sailed into the NY harbor looking up at the Statue of Liberty, she was very proud to become an American! After the loss of her husband Max, she went on to raise 6 children in a small modest home. Several years later she got remarried to Jim who doted on her and made her life much easier. They had many happy years in that big blue house on W. Taylor St. with dogs and squirrels and flower gardens. She loved her grandchildren as she loved her children, making each one feel like her secret favorite, each special to her because they were! In Heaven she will be in charge of the sewing room, making the angels gowns, because our Mom could make anything. Every year in January she would start knitting hats, gloves, and baby clothes and come Christmas she took them all to the Mission on Mulberry and no one ever knew. She loved babies, painted furniture, tea, naps, the rain, magazines, sewing, knitting, doing laundry, the song Deep Purple, the color turquoise, dogs, buttons, the ocean, good bread, men in uniform, soups, Mexican Coffee with Monica, and the USA, and the ones blessed to be born of her. We are so glad that she was our Mom and Grandma and we know that we will see her again. Max, John, Jim, Patty (Taskey), Maureen, and Bruce McKay
