Gary passed peacefully surrounded by his wife Sandy Thompson, and family after battling cancer. Gary was born in Kokomo, IN on April 4, 1954 to William and Gloria (Roberts) Thompson.
After graduating Kokomo High School in 1972 he began working at Chrysler where he retired after 35 years of service. While at Chrysler, Gary held the positions of Chief Union Steward and Health & Safety Representative.
In his younger days Gary enjoyed playing basketball, baseball, fast pitch softball, bowling and being with friends. Baseball and Softball teams he played for include Salvation Army (2 yrs.), and Punchy’s Radiator (9 yrs.) where the team was inducted into the Indiana Softball Hall of Fame in 2015. Basketball leagues Gary participated in include: Kokomo City League, and UAW Local 685. Gary was well known in his hometown of Kokomo from attending his son’s sporting events and supporting local teams. Additional activities that Gary frequently participated include fishing, bowling, cards, riding his Harley, and Tiger Woods PGA 2004 where handed out and received weekly beatings from his lifelong best friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents William and Gloria Thompson, maternal and paternal grandparents, mother and father-in-law Murline McGough and Jerry Hopkins, brother Delbert Parham. Gary leaves behind his wife Sandy (Marini) Thompson, sons Casey Thompson (Michele Thompson), Scotty Marini, grandchildren Alexis Marini, Jacey Lowe, Nicholas Taylor (Morgan), great grandchildren Lucas, Lorelei, Emmie. Siblings William (Rita), Kim Hulben (Stan), Dave (Trish Potts), Kelly Hall (Charlie), best friend/ brothers Mike Evans (Sheila), Howard Birdsong, Tim Glassburn (Sandy), Mike Harrison (Debbie).

There will be a celebration of life on October 14, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at UAW Local 685, 929 E. Hoffer St. Kokomo, IN 46902.
