Shortly after graduating from Kokomo High School, Deborah was married to Richard Meals in Wheeling, West Virginia. She and Richard later divorced, but together they continued to raise their son, Shawn. Deborah worked at the Chrysler plant in Kokomo for 30 years, retiring in 2008.
While she was growing up, Deborah attended Main Street Methodist Church in Kokomo. As she grew older, Deborah found enjoyment in dancing and traveling. She was also very generous in giving to charitable organizations, which included the Humane Society, Feed the Children, American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, and St. Joseph’s Indian School. Deborah truly had a heart of gold, and would help others in any way possible.
Deborah is survived by her son, Shawn (Brooke) Meals; siblings, Margaret Hendrix, Paul Hendrix, Robin Hendrix, Ronnie Hendrix, and Juan Urbina; grandchildren, Matthew Cass, Sophia Meals, and Tanner Gragg; and friends, Judy Miller, Susie Jones, and Sandy Carlton.
In addition to her parents, Deborah was preceded in passing by her brothers, Barry Hendrix and Perry Hendrix; and sister, Mary Urbina.
There will be a public visitation for Deborah held at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home on Saturday, December 7th from 11-1, followed immediately by a funeral service.
Memorial contributions in Deborah’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
