Betty Maxine Schmidlin, age 92, passed away on December 20, 2019 at her home in Kokomo. She was born on February 25, 1927 in Mitchell, Indiana to the late Cecil and Flossie (Wright) Burgess.
On March 21, 1945, Betty was married to William Schmidlin in Kokomo. William preceded Betty in passing on June 30, 2005. Betty had worked for over 25 years at J.C. Penney’s in Kokomo, primarily as the manager for the women’s department.
Betty regularly attended St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Kokomo. She was a member of the Joy Fellowship Group at the church, and also served there as a greeter. In her free time, Betty enjoyed keeping herself occupied by reading, completing crossword puzzles, and crocheting. She also liked going on camping trips with her husband. Betty was very devoted to her family, and loved supporting her grandsons in their sporting events.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Lynda (Phillip) Bunce; grandchildren, Steven (Marci) Bunce, Richard (Bobbie) Bunce, Benjamin Bunce, and Joshua (Sarah) Bunce; and great grandchildren, Alex Bunce, Nicole Bunce, Katie Bunce, Christian Bunce, Emma Bunce, Olivia Bunce, Ella Bunce, Norah Bunce, Taylor Bunce, Caleb Bunce, Keithan Bunce, and Madison Marshall.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in passing by a brother, Charles Burgess; and a sister, Dorothy Garling.
There will be a visitation for Betty held at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home on Monday, December 23rd from 11 am – 1 pm, followed immediately by a funeral service.
