William Burrell Vaughan (August 16, 1929 - March 19,2017.) William B. Vaughan died on the morning of March 19th, surrounded by his family. He departed only after his loving wife, Betty Gunter Vaughan, reaffirmed her love and promised Bill that she would always be with him - in this life and in the next. Bill was born in the city of Aulander, NC in Bertie County on August 16, 1929, the youngest of five children born to Oscar Reddick Vaughan and Willie Lee Peele. Bill graduated from Greensboro High School and began working as a stock boy at a local grocer. His shrewd business sense coupled with an outgoing, amiable personality landed him a position as a broker and later a salesman. The majority of his successful sales career was working for Texize and Dow Chemical in several locations throughout the Southeast, ultimately retiring as a Vice-President of the company. Betty and Bill were married July 17, 1948 in Greensboro, NC and had two sons, Randy Vaughan, of Knoxville, TN and Greg Vaughan, of Atlanta, GA, and a daughter, Melinda V. Petruzzi, of Columbia, SC. Bill loved telling stories and jokes, outdoor grilling, and haggling for a great deal. He had two sisters, Evelyn V. Brown, of Norfolk, VA and Janet V. Andrews, of Greensboro, NC. He also had two brothers, Marvin Vaughan, from Greensboro, NC and Reddick Vaughan, of Raleigh, NC, all of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his three children; as well as five grandchildren (Robert, Bill, Sara, Reddick and Gregory); and six great-grandchildren (Reese, Alex, Jameson, Caroline, Lillian and Peyton). In addition to his family, Bill valued the many relationships he made over the years with his and Betty’s neighbors in Knoxville, who they came to consider as their extended family. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, with the funeral service to follow at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home, 2300 Adair Dr. The entombment will follow at Lynnhurst Cemetery.
