He was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, the son of Janet (Jess) Dempster Sharp and Robert L. Sharp Sr.
He attended McCallie School and graduated from LaFollette High School. He attended Tusculum College and graduated from the University of Tennessee, where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon, with a degree in Business Management. He was in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a Certified Public Accountant and co-founder of Severance and Sharp CPA. He was a member of the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA) of which he was a Past President. He was a member of the American Institute of Public Accountants and served on the AICPA Council. He was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church, where he served faithfully as a Ruling Elder and Treasurer for many years and was named Treasurer Emeritus.
He is survived by his twin daughters; Marianne Faneuil and Susan Sharp Campbell and her husband Thomas Wood Campbell; sister, Janet Sharp Allen; brother-in-law, Robert L. Davis and his wife Lynne; sister-in-law, Betty Anne Sharp Schmid; nieces and nephews of three generations.
A service of celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. at Eastminster Presbyterian Church on Sunday, February 21, 2016, with visitation following the service.
