I just found out about  the passing of Gene my condolence goes out to The Monday family. I didn't  really know  Gene as he was in poor heath when Wil brought  him to the apartments on Laurel. I am proud to have had him as a cousin and he will hold a prominent place in my family tree.

My condolences to William Eugene Monday's family and loved ones. I was a tenant of Monday Realty for five years while I pursued my doctoral degree at University of Tennessee, Knoxville. As a person on a fixed income, I appreciated that Mr. Monday kept his housing rates affordable for students. I was also grateful for the people that he had on staff, like Joyce and Bill, both genuinely attentive to the needs and concerns of tenants. Fortunately for his tenants, Mr. Monday surrounded himself with kind and honest people. Sending blessings to Mr. Monday!


I was saddened to learn of Gene's passing.  He served as a groomsman in my wedding on September 1, 1967...and I haven't seen him since.  I was stationed at Keesler AFB, Biloxi, MS and came home for less than 24 hours to get married.  My wife, JoAnn Honeycutt, lived in the apartment behind the Monday's house in south Knoxville.  JoAnn passed from cancer in 1997.  I was lucky to count Gene as a friend.  My condolences on his passing.  

Many thanks for all the kindness he and his family have been to my mother and family over the many years. Thoughts and prayers are with you

I am heartbroken to know this world has lost such a stellar human being, who was a friend, inspiration, and great supporter of me for so many years. No words are good enough to match his goodness-no tears are enough to wash away the memory of Billy Gene. My memories of knowing him and living in Maplehurst are among my most precious and I am honored to have had that privilege. I count him among the biggest influences of my young adult life-no kindness will ever be forgotten-no words of encouragement ever went unheard-no acts of absolute unselfishness towards countless others will be underestimated in their ability to make lives easier and the world a better place having had him in it.
A huge space exists where he used to live in all our hearts but the memories he gave us will fill it up over time. For that I will always be thankful.

I am heart broken. Billy Gene was a friend to many kids thru the YMCA and Camp Montvale. And he was  a true friend  to me.
