William L. Baird, age 87, of Knoxville, Tennessee passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at Sacred Ground Hospice House with his wife and daughter by his side. He was born September 3, 1936 in Morristown, TN. Bill was a devout Methodist by faith. He served in the military as Airborne and a Green Beret with the Alabama National Guard Special Forces. After the military, Bill devoted his life to non-profit as the United Way director across the country. He was also with the Boys Scouts of America for many years. Bill was a beloved husband, father, "Grandpa", "Great Grandpa" and "Golden Man" to many.
He was preceded in death by father, William L. Baird; mother, Edna Jane Chaney; brothers, Victor Emert and Jack Emert. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Alice Baird; daughter, Bonnie Baird; son, William Lee Baird III and wife, Deb Baird; grandchildren, William Peter Baird and Joshua Maxim Baird; great grandson, Leo Baird; his Blount County brothers and sisters; special niece, Jan Emert; many nieces, nephews, cousins and additional family.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
