Walker Gray Haun, age 75, of Louisville, Tennessee passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2022. Gray was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Eugene Haun and Jane Gray Haun and brother-in-law Joseph M. Nowell Sr. Gray is survived by his wife, Nancy Elizabeth Fooshee Haun; brother, Dr. and Mrs. Louis Eugene Haun Jr.; sister, Caroline Haun Nowell; brother-in-law, George Estes Fooshee and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. He is remembered as a passionate, thoughtful, and loving man whose dedication to the environment and to the State of Tennessee will carry on his legacy far past his few years on this earth.
A Knoxville-native, Gray was born on December 7, 1946 at Fort Sanders Hospital as the third and youngest child of the Haun family. A passionate beekeeper, he first discovered his lifelong love of bees at the age of five, by his father's side, and that passion grew into his career with the State Apiarists for the State of Tennessee. Gray was a prominent Tennessee Administrator of Plant Industries. He was a graduate of Tennessee Military Institute, Lincoln Memorial University, and University of Tennessee's Master's Program. He also loved fishing, boating, water skiing, and playing tennis.
Gray is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Nancy Elizabeth Fooshee Haun. The couple were happily married at Erin Presbyterian Church on January 5, 1991. During their marriage, the couple enjoyed traveling around the country together and playing bridge competitively with their friends. Gray continued giving back to his community by participating in the Southern and National Plant Boards, serving as the president for each. Gray was a lifelong member of Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church and an active member of Erin Presbyterian Church. Gray will be deeply missed in his community and by his loved ones.
A visitation for Gray will be held Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at 1:00pm at Berry Highland Memorial Funeral Home with a funeral service to follow at 2pm. Gray will be interred at a 3pm graveside service at Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery.
