Twiyla was born in 1937 at home in Covington, OK. She attended Business College in Enid Where she met the love of her life, Albert Roach. They married in 1955, where they were pronounced "man and wife" at a gas station while sitting in the car. From these humble beginnings, she built a 68 year marriage, grew a family, and led a truly remarkable life.
As a military wife, she raised her family through turbulent times, including holding her household together through her husband's deployments in Vietnam. Although she had her own career and often worked long hours outside the home, she always put her family first. By day, she worked in the Pentagon as a secretary to the Joint Chiefs of Staff. At home, she hand crafted her daughter’s dresses on her Singer sewing machine, and put them to sleep by reading their favorite nighttime stories
Her family continued to grow under the leadership and guidance, as she became a grandmother, and eventually a great-grandmother. Affectionately known by all as "Granny", she was a matriarch that taught us all about strength, perseverance, and hard work through her actions. She demonstrated her faith by how she lived and how she treated others. Her smile and her laughter are unforgettable, and will live in the memory of all who knew her.
She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church of south Knoxville for over 20 years. She loved her family, travel, and cruising the world.
She was preceded in passing by her parents, Roy and pearl Karraker; brothers, Willard Eugene, Gerald Marvin; grandson, John Carlton Bridges.
Twiyla leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband of 68 years Albert Roach; children, Beverly Hargrove, Cynthia (Roy) Craft, Loretta Roach, Albert (Tina) Roach Jr., Patricia (Steve) Bridges, ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, and close friends.
