Tom was a 1957 graduate of Knoxville’s East High School, and joined the U.S. Navy following graduation. During his lengthy Navy career, Tom served 25 years in a variety of locations, but he was especially proud of his 1971-1974 tenure aboard the U.S.S. Nautilus 571.
Following his Navy career, Tom worked for many years in Oak Ridge in roles of increasing responsibility at Union Carbide, Martin Marietta, Lockheed Marietta, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and Bechtel Jacobs, retiring in 2005.
For several decades, Tom was a fixture among Knoxville’s historic preservation community, serving on the board of the Old Mechanicsville Neighborhood Interest (OMNI), working with Knox Heritage to ensure that architectural artifacts from historic homes in Fort Sanders were salvaged before demolition, and serving on Knoxville’s Historic Zoning Commission. Additionally, he and his wife Jackie for many years were ward captains and supervised local elections in Historic Mechanicsville’s Ninth Ward.
Thomas is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Jackie L. Morelock; Sons: Warren (Kelli) Morelock & Scott Morelock: daughter Donna (Greg) Henson: grandchildren Heather (Tyler) Millsaps; Elijah (Julie) Connatser; Seth Connatser, and Warren Morelock Jr.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 26, 2024 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the parlors of Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Hwy, Knoxville. Family and friends will meet at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery 2200 E Governor John Sevier Hwy, Knoxville TN 37920 for an interment service with Military Honors.
