Thomas Bratton “Toby” Hyke went home to be with the Lord on February 22nd, 2023. He was a lifelong Knoxville resident, an avid Tennessee fan, and a successful business owner in South Knoxville for nearly 40 years. Toby graduated from Doyle High School in 1978. He was an incredibly talented football player, and he also ran track. His performance on the football field would eventually lead to recruiting offers from nearly every school in the SEC. Unfortunately, due to an injury during his senior year, he was unable to continue playing football after high school.
Upon graduation, Toby took over his father’s business, Knoxville Radiator. He would successfully operate and own this business up until just a few years before his death. Throughout this time, Toby had a reputation as an honest, knowledgeable businessman. He met many lifelong friends at the shop, and maintained countless returning customers over the years. It was impossible for Toby to go somewhere in Seymour or South Knoxville and not see someone that he knew. People were always happy to see Toby, and he was always happy to be recognized.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence “Larry” Hyke and Dorothy “Dot” Hyke; and sister, Teresa Foster.
Toby is survived by his wife of 25 years, Kelli Hyke; his children, 2Lt Keaton Hyke (USAF), Kamille Hyke, Karlee Mayers, and Kendall Mayers; sisters, Kathy Markwood (Husband, Steve) and Lori Humphreys (Son, Wilton); nieces and nephews, Derek Foster, Courtney Foster-Donahue (Husband, Josh), Lauren Markwood, Andy Markwood, Cameron Atchley (Wife, Karly and sons, Cash and Colston), and Kelby Atchley (son, Abel); Sister-In-Law, Kristi Atchley (Husband, Randy).
The family would like to extend a personal thank you to Larry and Julie Cameron for being angels in human form, Patti and Raphael Ortiz and Ronnie Gossett for being incredible neighbors. Michael Wood for all the lunches he and Toby shared, Stanley and Mimsy Fleming, and Lucas Farragut for always helping in any way he could. These people and countless others helped the family in numerous ways throughout Toby’s final years.
The family will greet friends 4 pm until 6 pm Tuesday February 28, 2023 at Northstar South Campus 1204 East Governor John Sevier Hwy. Knoxville, TN 37920 and a Celebration of Life Memorial Service will follow at 6 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family instead asks for donations to Seymour Volunteer Fire Department, 101 Ford Hill Ln. Seymour, TN 37865.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.berryfuneralhome.com for the Hyke family.
