Terry duPont passed away peacefully in his home on July 24, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was born in Kentucky and moved to Knoxville, TN. He worked at Baptist Hospital where he met his wife, Arlene. He eventually became the head of the Respiratory Therapy department. Terry was a founding member of Faith Promise Church and served as Executive Pastor from its creation in 1995 until 1999. At age 62, God called him and his wife, Arlene, to become full-time missionaries in Central America. They created Open Eyes Ministries- initially in Nicaragua, and then in Honduras and Costa Rica.
Thousands of people have been ministered to, discipled, and led to the Lord through Open Eyes Ministries. Terry and Arlene retired in 2019, but the ministry continues; Terry had a passion for raising leaders in countries that can and do continue to train and minister to others. Terry loved playing and watching sports (especially basketball), traveling, reading, and spending time with family.
In addition to his wife, Arlene, he leaves behind daughters, Kristi Letsinger (John), Ginger Smith (David), Deana Duke (Ken); sons, Kevin duPont and Kerry duPont. He is also survived by his brother, Gene Meador (Judy), and sister, Donna Hill (Dick). Terry's grandchildren include Kaylene and Tycen Letsinger, Tony Smith (Amanda), Ashlie duPont, Shelby Smith, Nicholas duPont, Alyssa Bennefield and Adam Duke, Justin and Danielle Heil. Terry's great grandchildren are Tyler (Chelsea), Nash, Calvin, and others.
Terry is preceded in death by his mother, Lucile Meador; father, Hamilton duPont, and daughter Terry Jane Heil.
