Mrs. Sue Ownby

Sue Ellen Ownby, aged 76, passed away peacefully at home on November 11, 2018 surrounded by her family. Sue was born on April 19, 1942, in Nashville, TN, the daughter of Ben Marvin Jones and Cora Alice Hall.

Sue graduated from Fulton High School and later received her medical secretary certification. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Sue enjoyed cooking, gardening, staying at her cabin in the mountains, and visiting Dollywood with Jimmy.

She married the love of her life, Jimmy, in 1961, and they raised their three children in the Powell community. Before her illness, Sue loved taking care of babies in the nursery, decorating, and volunteering at First Baptist Church of Powell.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Alice Jones; brother-in-law Hugh Ownby; and brother-in-law Don Ownby. She is survived by her loving husband, Jimmy, children Doug and Sandra Ownby (Knoxville), Joel and Jami Blair (Knoxville), and Scott and Sherri Ownby (Murfreesboro). Sue loved her grandchildren: Jon, Kristen, Jacob, Caleb, Eli, and Chloe. Sue is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Rex and Patsy Ownby, Fred and Doris Young, sister-in-law Patty Ownby, sister-in-law Mary Ann Jennings, and many more family members and friends. The family is grateful for the support from volunteers and staff at Amedisys Hospice that assisted with Sue's care over the last several months.

The family will receive friends at Berry Highland Memorial, located at 5315 Kingston Pike in Knoxville, on Friday November 16, 2018 from 5 - 7pm. The Celebration of Life service will follow with Pastors Phil Jones and Jim Waddell officiating. The burial will be Saturday November 17, at 11am, at Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Amedisys Hospice, 1420 Dutch Valley Rd, Knoxville, TN, 37918.
