Steve was preceded in death by his parents, John C. Cox Jr. and Ingrid Cox; brother, Jeff Cox. He is survived by his wife, Becky and two sons, Steven S. Cox Jr. and wife Taylor, and Benjamin M. Cox; uncle,Thad S. Cox Sr. and wife, Peggy; first cousin, Thad Cox Jr. and wife Elizabeth. Other family members include the Vittetoe, Kedrow, and McKinney families.
Born with a passion for understanding and navigating the banking world, Steve pursued his studies in finance at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He further honed expertise at the LSU banking school, solidifying his commitment to a career in finance. For many years, Steve dedicated his professional life to First Tennessee Bank, where he served as a commercial loan officer.
Beyond the walls of the bank, Steve was a man of many interests. He found joy in working on cars and boats, exploring his curiosity with all things mechanical. He was fascinated by trains, reflecting his appreciation for the intricate workings of engineering. Golf also brought him joy for many years that he shared with friends and family. He learned the game by chipping in the yard with his grandfather and eventually became a very accomplished golfer. Although physical injuries in his mid-years prevented him from playing, the sport remained very close to his heart.
Steve was a dedicated family man, cherishing the moments he spent with his wife and two sons. He took great pride in being both a father and a husband. Despite facing significant physical challenges throughout his life, Steve displayed unmatched strength and resilience. His punctuality was a testament to his disciplined nature, and he approached life with a laser-focused determination.
A loyal friend, Steve leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and unwavering commitment to those he loved. His impact on the lives of his family and friends will be remembered fondly, and he will be greatly missed.
A receiving of family and friends for Steve will be held Sunday, December 3, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Berry Highland Memorial Funeral Home, 5315 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, Tennessee 37919, followed by a funeral service at 4:00 PM.
