Sonja Kinsey Funk, 79, of Knoxville, went to tend Heaven's garden, March 29th, 2017. She was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, February 7th, 1938. Sonja graduated East High School after attending Central High School. She attended Knoxville Business College and worked for many years at Standard Knitting Mill, St. Mary's hospital and Knoxville Breast Center where she was known for being very meticulous and organized. Sonja was an active member of the Beta Sigma Phi, a women's social, cultural, and service sorority, whose main focus was philanthropy. She always knew where to lend a helping hand. Sonja married Raymond Ralph Funk in 1962 who later predeceased her in 1997. Sonja was one of the last surviving charter members for Eastminster Presbyterian Church dating back to 1952. She enjoyed the essence of nature, always captivated by the lull and serenity of the lake and mountains. She loved to read profusely and was never caught without a book in her hand. For well over 30 years Sonja graciously entertained friends, family and Boy Scout Troop 30 at her cabin on Watts Bar Lake.She is survived by her children, Cindy Estes, Daniel and Paul Funk; her grandchildren, Branson, Gillian, and Garrett; as well as her three younger sisters, and brother.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Pat Summitt Foundation, 520 W. Summit Hill Drive, Suite 1101, Knoxville, TN 37902. The family will receive friends Sunday, April 2, 2017, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., at Berry Highland Memorial, with a graveside service to follow in the Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery.
