Sherrill Hagaman Creed, age 82, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2023. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Jack Walters Creed. They were married for nearly 58 years. She is also preceded by her parents Frank Allen Hagaman, Sr., and Belle Watkins Hagaman, and brother Bob (Betty) Watkins and sister-in-law Jilda (Bob) Creed Kettel.
Sherrill is survived by her children Joe (Tonya) Allen Creed, David (Melissa) Walters Creed, and Sara (Mark) Creed Shoemaker; grandchildren Josh (Courtney) Allen Creed, Lexie (Bradley) Creed Willis, Lena Creed Shoemaker, Emily Priscilla Creed, Sam Robinson Shoemaker, and Jack Hagaman AiYu Shoemaker; sister Wanda Watkins Kilby, brother Frank (Gay) Allen Hagaman, Jr., and sister Carol Hagaman Young; brother-in-law Tom (Jane) Creed; and many nieces and nephews.
Sherrill was born in Wilkes Co., North Carolina, graduated from Appalachian High School in 1958 and from Appalachian Teachers College (now Appalachian State University) in 1962, both in Boone, NC. She was a lifelong fan - Go Apps! After marrying Jack, they moved to Charleston, South Carolina, and later to Cary, NC, where Sherrill taught high school history and geography and coached girls basketball. They later settled in Greeneville, TN, where she continued teaching elementary school physical education.
She was always interested in traveling and relished the opportunity to live in Holland in the late 1970s while Jack participated in management training at the Philips global headquarters. Sherrill and her family moved back to Greeneville and then relocated to Knoxville, TN, in 1994. She and Jack enjoyed driving across the United States and Canada. They visited Mexico, much of Europe - notably England, Scotland, and Ireland - several cities in China, and Australia, including a trek through the Outback, and New Zealand.
Sherrill and Jack loved the beach and visited Myrtle Beach, SC, often twice a year for decades. At home in Knoxville, she enjoyed swimming in her pool and hosting many visits from her children and grandchildren as well as hosting family parties and gatherings of the Wesley Neighbors Community Association in West Hills.
Sherrill and Jack were active members of First United Methodist Church in Knoxville where they enjoyed their Sunday School class and outdoor services overlooking the Tennessee River.
A visitation for Sherrill will be held Sunday, Nov. 26, 2023, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Berry Highland Memorial, 5315 KINGSTON PIKE, KNOXVILLE, TN 37919, followed by a Celebration of Life from 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
