Sharon was born on February 13, 1942, to Robert and Ruth Lyons in Fairfield, IA. Sharon grew up in Fairfield and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1960. Sharon met Larry Bishop, who was the love of her life and her husband of 63 years, in 1958 while attending high school and while both worked for Red and Ruth’s Café in Fairfield. They were married on September 4, 1960 and went on to have three children – Kim Charron, wife of Dave Charron who live in Atlanta, GA, and twins Kelly Heiskell, wife of Ted Heiskell who live in Knoxville, TN and Kevin Bishop, husband of Frances Bishop who live in Oneida, TN.
Sharon was passionate about quilting, cooking, playing cards and spending time traveling with family and friends. Sharon turned her passion for cooking and cook books into a successful cake business out of a second kitchen in her home in Fairfield and taught cake decorating classes at a community college.
When the family moved to Knoxville in 1979 Sharon decided to open Sharon’s Sugar Shack which impressed many Knoxville taste buds for seventeen years until her retirement in 1996. She continued to delight family and friends with her cooking and quilting skills for the next twenty-seven years. Sharon and Larry were members of Concord Presbyterian Church where they were co-chefs for many special dinners with fellow parishioners. Sharon was known to be a competitive card player and enjoyed playing from early evening well into the early morning hours. We will miss Sharon’s passion for spending time and engaging with family and friends greatly.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Nurse Beth, Nurse Jane and the entire staff from the Covenant Health Home Care and Hospice Team for their excellent help and assistance during Sharon’s recent home hospice care. We would also like to thank the team at Amada Senior Care.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ruth and her siblings, Marjorie, Donna and Larry. Sharon is survived by her husband, Larry; daughters, Kim, Kelly and son, Kevin. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Jessica and Jim Fang, Kyle and Emily Charron, Brett and Lisa Charron and Jennifer and Nic Urbain, all of Atlanta, GA.
