Richard Lynn King, 76, passed away on June 28, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Knoxville, TN, on March 27, 1947, he was the beloved son of James and Harriett King. Richard, known affectionately as Rick, served honorably in the US Navy during the Vietnam era. Following his military service, he embarked on a successful career as an Engineer at Norfolk Southern, where he dedicated almost 40 years of his life.
Rick cherished his role as a family man that left behind a legacy of love and devotion. His children, Lisa, husband Tom, and Wesley, wife Paula, will forever treasure the memories shared. Rick also took great joy in being a grandfather to Carley, Sami, and Owen.
Rick found love again in 2010 and married his beloved wife, Meredith. Their union brought together two families, and Rick embraced his stepchildren, Chris and Melissa, with open arms. He became a cherished grandfather to five additional grandchildren, Taby, Tristen, Austin, Jordan, and Justin.
Rick will be remembered as a dedicated family man, a loving father, and a doting grandfather. He was passionate about travel and cherished the moments spent exploring new places with his wife and family. Rick was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone he encountered.
Rick is survived by his wife Meredith; daughter, Lisa Hong and husband Tom; son, Wesley King and wife Paula; stepson, Chris Smith and wife Milissa; stepdaughter, Melissa Smith and wife Kim; grandchildren, Carley, Sami, Owen, Taby, Tristen, Austin, Jordan, and Justin; brother, David King and wife April; cousin, Jacque Cooper; stepsister, Donna Holt. Their shared memories of Rick will forever hold a special place in their hearts.
A visitation to honor Rick's life will be held on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Berry Highland Memorial Funeral Home, 5315 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919. Following the visitation, a funeral service will take place at 3:00 p.m., paying tribute to Rick's remarkable journey.
