Mary Elizabeth Gass

Mary Elizabeth Solomon McNelly Gass age 75, of Knoxville, passed away Sunday, September 3, 2017 while surrounded by family and friends. She was a faithful member of Asbury United Methodist Church. Mary retired in 2006 from New York Life Insurance Co. as an Administrative Manager after 32 years of service. She was preceded in death by her mother Alma M. Gott, first husband Jack E. McNelly and step-son Shawn Gass. She is survived by her loving husband Edward D. Gass and children, E. Diane Pyne, Kathy (Rodney) Bunch, Missy (Jay) O’Mary. She adored her grandchildren Shelby and Christopher Pyne, Jordan and Abby Bunch, Dalton (Charlotte) Morrell and Cody O’Mary. Great-grand daughter Emma O’Mary. Special family friend Shari Rau. Mary was an 8 year cancer survivor and an inspiration to many to never give up and keep your faith in the Lord. Special thanks to Dr. Hesamm Ghararvi and staff for the excellent care provided during her journey. Service will be as follows: Receiving of friends, Wednesday, Sept 6 from 4:30PM – 7:00PM at Asbury United Methodist Church with funeral to follow at 7:00PM with Rev. Ashley Helton officiating. Entombment Thursday at 12:30PM at Berry Highland South. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Asbury United Methodist Church.
