Martin Eugene Cagle

Cagle, Martin E., age 79, of South Knoxville, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 22, 2013 after a brief battle with cancer. Martin was born in Knoxville on December 1, 1933 and after High School he was drafted into the US Navy during the Korean Conflict where he was a pipe fitter and when he returned home in 1957, he worked as a plumber for a few years. In 1960, he began his career with the Knoxville Police Department as a patrolman and later a detective. He retired in 1976 and began his own plumbing business. Martin served as President of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #2 two different terms and also served as State Vice President of the FOP. His main focus as president was gaining better benefits and equipment for the officers and helping underprivileged children through special events and summer camps. Martin faithfully served Mt. Olive Baptist Church as a Sunday School teacher and Deacon from 1968 to present. He was an avid hunter and fisherman with a deep love for the great outdoors. Martin was preceded in death by parents, William E. and Litha Bell Cagle; brothers, Ed Cagle and James Reeford Cagle; sisters, Lucinda “Cindy” Bowman, Billie Cobble and Clara Jones. Martin is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mildred (Millie) Cagle; sons, Alan Ross Cagle (Glenda) and Scott Ernest Cagle (Melissa); grandchildren; Caleb Cagle (Amanda) and Erin Cagle; sister, Mary Walker and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 5 – 7 PM Thursday, September 26, 2013, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 2500 Maryville Pike Knoxville, TN 37920 with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 7 PM. Rev. Steve Best and Rev. Doyle Landers officiating. Family and friends will meet 10:15 AM Friday, September 27, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church and will proceed in procession to Mt. Olive Cemetery for an 11 AM interment service, Rev. Cesar Correa officiating. Memorials may be made to the parking lot fund at Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
