Luther graduated from Carson-Newman College and went on to attend the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has been the minister of music in baptist churches in Texas, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Tennessee. He worked as the choral director at Young High School and Karns High School, as well as participating as a tenor soloist with the Knoxville Choral Society. Luther was a SCAN volunteer with the Knox County Sheriff's Department, and loved spending his time gardening, woodworking, and making oil and acrylic paintings.
Preceded in death by his mother and father, Frances and Luther Johnson; and his brother.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Evelyn; daughters, Susan (Louis) and Carol (Greg); son, Jeff (Jina); and grandsons, Daniel and Nathan.
A celebration of life service for Luther will be held Saturday, October 15, 2022 at 11:00 AM at West Lonsdale Baptist Church, 2720 Dayton St NW, Knoxville, TN 37921, Jeff Johnson officiating. Following the service will be a graveside service at 1:00 PM at Woodlawn Cemetery, 4500 Woodlawn Pike, Knoxville, TN 37920. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to West Lonsdale Baptist Church, 2720 Dayton St NW, Knoxville, TN 37921, or Mission of Hope, P.O. Box 51824, Knoxville, TN 37950.
