Larry was born in Newark, OH in 1937 to Lawrence and Katherine Barrett. He graduated in 1955 from Corning High School and started to work in truck sales at International Harvester in Indianapolis, IN. He later moved to Tennessee and began working for East TN Ford Truck. He owned TN Truck & Equipment. Larry then became President of Knoxville MACK.
Larry was a life-long member of First Church of God, Knoxville AKA Knoxville First Church. He served in several ministries including acting as a member of the Board of Trustees, Sunday School Teacher, Treasurer, Usher and more. He loved his church and loved his Lord God Almighty.
Larry married the Love of his life, Mary Lou Nichols in 1957. They were married 67 years. Larry and Mary wanted to start a family, as children meant everything to them. Together they raised four children, Lawrence E. Barrett (Terry), Brad Barrett, Melinda Patsey (Kevin), and Kimberly Burleson (Derrick).
Larry loved his children and looked forward to having grandchildren. Together Larry (Poppy) and Mary (Nanny) have seven grandchildren; Nicole Webb (Guy), David Barrett, Brie Ulrich (Brandon), Beau Barrett, Logan Barrett, Gavin Burch and Natalie Barrett; 10 great grandchildren, Bryce Barrett, Connor Webb, Noah Burleson, Preston Barrett, Peyton Ulrich, Paige Webb, Rhett Ulrich, Isla Ulrich, Silas Barrett and Lennox Burleson. Larry is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Steve and Carol Gough; sisters, Michelle McCormick (Bobby) and Lora Lee Cavineer (Vic, deceased); special friends, Larry (deceased) and Lavonne Williams, Gary and Sue Reed, Jimmy Douglas, W.H. Bolin and Gordon Teffeteller.
Larry was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lawrence and Katherine Barrett, step-parents, Eston and Catherine Dew; infant son, (Brian Barrett); brothers, Jack, Paul and Teddy Barrett.
Receiving of friends will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Knoxville First Church, 6708 Westland Drive from 12-2pm with a funeral service immediately following at 2pm. A graveside service will be held at Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery on Monday, November 18, 2024 at 1pm.
