Kenny Cloninger, age 76, of Knoxville, Tennessee passed away on Monday, January 8, 2024. He was born in Knoxville on Monday, August 4, 1947 and spent his youth in Strawberry Plains. After proudly serving in the US Air Force, Kenny went to work for Norfolk Southern Railroad where he retired after 46 years of dedicated service. Kathy and Kenny married in 1973, and lovingly restored and renovated the Orndorff home on Gibbs Drive turning it into the beautiful and welcoming home it is today. Kenny was a skilled craftsman, enthusiastic youth baseball coach and dedicated father. In his spare time, Kenny enjoyed photography, sports and travelling.
Kenny was preceded in death by loving wife, Kathy Cloninger; parents, William Adam Cloninger and Ruby Margaret Lockhart Cloninger; brothers, Bill, Roland "Bud" and Terry Cloninger. He is survived by two loving sons and daughters-in-law, Michael (Stacey) Cloninger and Patrick (Christine) Cloninger; grandchildren, Joey, Jake, and Grace Gerken; beloved sister, Peggy Moore; several nieces and nephews.
Kenny and Kathy were tireless community volunteers, particularly with the Gibbs Drive Neighborhood Association and Fountain City Day in the Park. Kenny was named Fountain City Man of the Year in 2016. Thanks to Gibbs Drive neighbors, the Fothergills and the Tennants, for the food and many front porch visits.
Family will receive friends Sunday, January 21st from 5-7pm with a Celebration of Life Service at 7pm at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home. A private graveside service will take place at Lynnhurst Cemetery. Kenny's was a life well-lived. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and neighbors.
