Kenneth E. McMullen

McMullen, Kenneth E., age 74, of Powell, TN went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 29, 2021. He was a faithful member of Powell United Methodist Church. Ken served honorably in the US Army. In 1981, Ken joined Weigel’s, Inc., an East Tennessee convenience store chain and dairy, in what would become a 40-year career. His initial job with Weigel’s was the company’s Operations Manager. Ken was highly instrumental in the company growth through his innovative spirit, and in 2017, became its CEO. He was the first non-family member CEO of this 90-year old company, and grew the Weigel’s chain to 70 stores and a bakery. Ken’s leadership played a key role in Weigel’s becoming the 2019 Convenience Store Chain of the Year. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Ken was also an avid golfer.

Preceded in death by parents, Roy and Betty McMullen; wife of 53 years, Lana Sue McMullen; brothers, Artie, Mike and Dennis McMullen. Survived by daughters, Melinda Sharp and husband, Terry and Carrie Robertson; grandchildren, Jacob Sharp, Cooper Sharp, and Avery Robertson; siblings, Goldie Trager and husband, Clayton, Sharon Burris and husband, Ed and Mark McMullen; brother-in-law, John Powell and wife, Tina; special nieces, Kirby Roads and Samantha Buehler.

The family will receive friends 11 am – 1 pm Thursday, August 5th at Powell United Methodist Church, 323 W. Emory Road, Powell, TN 37849 with the funeral service to follow at 1 pm. Pastor Brad Hyde will officiate. Interment will follow at Lynnhurst Cemetery.
