John Douglas “Doug” Wilkerson passed away peacefully on the morning of July 20, 2016 at Fort Sanders Hospital while surrounded by his loved ones. Doug spent thirty-five years of his colorful life serving the Knoxville community with the City of Knoxville Fire Department. He retired as Captain in 1995 and remained an active member of society until his passing. Doug’s passion and loyalty for the Tennessee Vols “Big Orange” was indescribable. Many of our memories of Doug revolve around the Volunteers and watching his sons and grandchildren play the sports he loved. Doug was a charter member of Southside Baptist Church serving faithfully since 1968. His love for Southside’s ministries was evident to all who knew him. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gerava; and brothers, Richard and Curtis. He is survived by sons, Marty and fiance DeDe; Jeff and wife Tiffany; Jason and wife Julie; grandchildren Zack and wife Amanda; Madison, Paige, Kaitlyn, Hunter, and Zander; great-granddaughter, Blakelyn; cousins, Nancy Burnette, and Steve Grindstaff; and sister-in-law, Janelle Coleman.
